Endometriosis Symptoms

Learn about endometriosis symptoms

Learn about the signs of endometriosis during Endometriosis Awareness MonthIf you talk to two women with endometriosis, they will likely tell you two different stories about their endometriosis symptoms. One woman might say she had debilitating pain. The other woman might say that she had no idea anything was wrong until she had trouble conceiving. Both of these women have very different yet common signs of endometriosis.

Knowing the signs of endometriosis is the first step to receiving the treatment you need

You know your body better than anyone else, so you know when something doesn’t seem right. However, you might not know what your symptoms mean. To help you determine whether it could be endometriosis, our San Antonio fertility doctor is sharing the signs of endometriosis.

Endometriosis symptoms may be different for each person

  • Severe pelvic pain and cramping, especially before and during your period. Lower back and abdominal pain can also be a sign of this condition.
  • Heavy periods or bleeding in between your periods.
  • Experiencing pain during or after sex.
  • Painful bowel movements or urination, especially around that time of the month.
  • Infertility is often the reason women without other symptoms first seek help.
  • Other signs of endometriosis include fatigue and gastrointestinal problems like bloating, constipation, diarrhea and nausea. This causes some women to be misdiagnosed with IBS.

You might also be surprised to learn that the pain you experience from endometriosis doesn’t necessarily indicate your condition’s severity. For example, some women will have mild endometriosis and have almost unbearable pain. In contrast, other women with severe endometriosis feel no pain at all. This shows that it’s essential to know all the different endometriosis symptoms, as well as what’s normal for you.
